--- Comment #9 from Mike <bugzilla at mkr.email> ---
I use a Lumia 550 with the final release of Windows Mobile 10 (10.0.15254.490)
and the latest release of the Office Mobile apps (16002.10325.20036.0).
There were two issues
a) Word Mobile says, that the document is in an 'old version'.
I could not reproduce these with the recent version. I also created some new
test cases with 6.1RC2. Word just opened the files.
b) Office Mobile handles all files as read-on. Only saving a copy of a document
is possible.
In the latest releases of Office Mobile you need an Office365 subscription to
edit documents.
That does not mean you need to open the browser to edit a document. It's just
about the license stored inside the phone. An account in the MS App Store is
not enough. Office Mobile needs an additional activation.
You can see App's version and license type in 'Settings'→ 'Info'.
