Bug ID: 119490
Summary: Impress crashes system when put into full screen mode
with HDMI connection
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 6.0.6.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: richardinboulder at gmail.com
Description:
When I press F5 or click "Start from first Slide" to start a slide show, my
entire system crashes (freezes). This seems to happen only when my laptop is
connected to a projector with an HDMI connection. I can enter slide show mode
without problems when the laptop is not connected to a projector. I estimate
that the problem happens over 50% of the times that I start a slide show. The
freeze happens immediately upon pressing F5 or clicking the "Start from first
Slide" icon.
I can project other applications and the Ubuntu desktop just fine via the HDMI
connection.
I don't have access to a VGA connection to test whether HDMI is the only
connection method causing the crash.
This problem seems to have started with version 6.06, as I've been using
Impress for years on the same laptop with HDMI without problems.
Thanks for otherwise awesome FOSS software. I use Impress daily and am
grateful to devs for maintaining it.
LibreOffice 6.0.6.2 running on Ubuntu 18.04.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Impress
2. Open an odp file
3. Plug in HDMI into laptop
4. Press F5 or click corresponding icon
Actual Results:
System freezes immediately. Screen stays on, but no mouse movement or keyboard
activity takes place.
Expected Results:
Full screen slide show
Reproducible: Sometimes
User Profile Reset: No
OpenGL enabled: Yes
Additional Info:
I am reluctant to upgrade to 6.1, but if the issue was fixed by 6.1, I can give
it a try.
A work-around seems to be to wait to plug the HDMI cord into the laptop until
AFTER Impress is in full-screen presentation mode.
Here's the system's OpenGL report:
