Thanks for the suggestion.  I downloaded and read each section that mentions
"manual format", and the section on Styles. Unfortunately the author isn't
clear which kind of style he's referring to when he speaks of styles.
So I'm no wiser as to whether italicising some words in a paragraph is
considered manual formatting.
That's about the only manual formatting I do, as far as I'm aware, using styles
for everything else.
So if that's not the recommended way to do it, I would really like to know what
the recommended way is.
