You can force the number format when in the Subtotals dialog under Options Sort
Include formats is checked. Yes, this is not obvious.
That should be preset for the anonymous DB range that is created for the
subtotals if no database range exists for the range, from which it would be
inherited otherwise (the Keep formatting option there).
