Bug ID: 118754
Summary: Inappropriate Default File Paths Imposed in Custom
Installations
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 6.0.5.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Installation
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: ceplaw at gmail.com
Description:
If I tell LibreOffice during setup that I want everything in a specific path,
EVERYTHING should go there... or, at minimum, there should be specific ability
to point things. For example, in Windows, if I state I want LibreOffice to
install to c:\libreoffice, the installation program SHOULD NOT blithely:
* install a bunch of critical files, such as dictionaries, to c:\program
files\libreoffice... especially since GETTING AWAY FROM the moronic "program
files" | "program files (x86)" nightmare is part of why I want a custom path!
* install PERSISTENT DATA FILES (such as templates, autocorrect, etc.) to any
part of the (equally moronic) c:\user pathway... especially to "roaming"!
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start installation from the .msi file and designate a non-default location
for the installation
2. Open LibreOffice, select Tools | Options | Paths
3. Mutter and swear because the selected installation path was not respected
Actual Results:
See above; this is NOT version-specific and has been a problem for years. It
just finally became more than an annoyance.
Expected Results:
If I tell a program "Install to Path X," ALL of its critical components should
install to Path X and subfolders thereof -- ESPECIALLY nonexecutable files like
dictionaries and templates that are program-unique.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
This is a persistent problem that I have encountered in both
pre-OpenOffice-fork versions and every installation I've done of LibreOffice.
I'm irritated now because it just broke a customized dictionary by reverting to
a default location without telling me a couple of versions ago, meaning that
I've lost over a year's worth of customizations.
This clearly results from the installation program assuming that each and every
computer has multiple users and that individual user settings will vary
significantly. Some of us, who actually care about security, don't do that sort
of thing (and where we have multiple users, we demand that everything except
the user identity be uniform). We should at least be allowed control over it,
especially when we TOLD we're being granted control with the option to "choose"
an installation pathway.
AT MINIMUM, the customization-of-location options should be more explicit on
what is actually being customized.
