I'm running:

  a) Debain 9.5 (x86-64) / Linux 4.9.0-7-amd64


  b) $ mysql --version
     mysql  Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.2.16-MariaDB, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64)
using readline 5.2


  c) Connector upgraded to: /usr/share/java/mariadb-java-client-2.2.6.jar

     Then installed in LO with:
       Menu> Tools> Option> 
         LibreOffice> Advanced> Java Options> Class Path...> 
           Assigned folders and archives:
               /usr/share/java/mariadb-java-client-2.2.6.jar
