The reason is not an alpha channel. But the image has a color depth of 1 bit
per pixel.

It was OK in
Version 4.0.1.2 (Build ID: 84102822e3d61eb989ddd325abf1ac077904985)
It is broken in 
Version: 4.5.0.0.alpha0+
