I upgraded LO to Version: 6.0.6.2, Build ID: 1:6.0.6-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 and
turned off JRE as suggested by other users.  The problem was gone then.  

JRE was defaulted as 'On' for this version, LO Writer just woundn't start, it
just crashed. LO Calc would start with a blank spreadsheet, but it also crashed
when opening an existing spreadsheet.
