            Bug ID: 125000
Summary: Writer page numbering takes no account of no page
                    number required on title page
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 6.1.5.2 release
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: Mac OS X (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
          Reporter: internalmemo at gmail.com

Description:
It seems that, with LO 6.1.5.2, in Writer you cannot ever have page numbering
that starts at 2 (on the second page), that's to say, the first (title) page of
the document having NO page number showing on it. As an experienced document
writer, it just looks completely wrong and unnecessary to have '1' showing at
the top of the title page (the latter page being the term I use for the very
first page of the document, the page where the document's title is written at
the top, with body text immediately below that title, the document then
continuing with '2' being the second page, as you'd expect). Currently in
Writer there are some special options for title pages (which I find dreadfully
ambiguous, BTW) but they do not allow for this rather common and simple
requirement.

Another terrible annoyance is that if you delete or otherwise remove all
existing page numbers and then you add just one page number, via say Insert >
Page Number, that number gets added to ALL the pages in the document - which
is a total nonsense!

I've given up trying to get page numbering right in my Writer documents. I work
with .doc documents, BTW, rather than the native file format. Sheet size A4.
Instead, I now just set the page header to as small as possible and immediately
below that I MANUALLY type the required page number. I normally choose to have
the number at the top of the page and centred. At least that way I end up with
sensible numbering. But of course it's rather ridiculous to have to separately
and manually insert every single page number in a document.

I'd like to see standard page numbering but with an option to omit the number
on the first page. Although it may look like it, that's not covered by the
special options in Format > Title Page. I've experimented with those settings
endlessly to no avail.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.None needed, really. Just follow my Description and you'll see what I mean.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
In Writer, go to Format > Page, and on the Page tab you'll see a dropdown menu
for page numbering format. The nearest you find there to what's required in
this instance is 1,2,3 etc, but that means you have to have '1' showing on the
first, or title, page. Grrh!

Expected Results:
N.A. See my temporary workaround.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
See my description.

I'm using an iMac running macOS Sierra 10.12.6.
