Before I posted the bug report, I did a quick search, but couldn't find a
similar one easily. It turns out I didn't take the time to understand the way
the search engine works on Bugzilla. 
After my second search, I could find similar bugs like the one Timur linked.
However, none of the bug reports that I found say anything about the typed text
not showing up, but almost only about problems related to dysfunctioning menus.
Therefore, it seems that the underlying problem is not fully overlapping.
