A few updates on this.

It's been a while, and

1. I raised hell with the Japs at Brother printers, for implementing an idiot
system of having to down load a file from the bowels of their website, that
when run, would then hook your machine up to their servers and that would then
produce a download and interactive set up program, of about 90 or 120 Meg, to
configure your computer, to run their printer, and this crap took like an hour
an a half...

2. I told them stop doing this insanely stupid shit, and just provide a
downloadable drivers file, partly to stop the insane bullshit with installing
the driver files.

You know - seriously.

3. And not all people, all the time, are plugged into an internet connection
all the time. Having the downloaded and saveable driver file, simplifies
everything, as would include a USB stick with all of the current OS drivers on
them.

4. The printer always gave a PALE gray print, even on the darkest settings and
I had HUGE fights with the whole lot of Brother Printers, from Japan, Australia
and the tech support...

5. The pale print problem was fixed when I just bought a ton of aftermarket
toner - enough for 20,000 prints and a decent aftermarket large capacity drum.
Simply replacing the nearly empty toner in the stock drum with the aftermarket
toner, cured that problem.

6. Due to the dragged out issues of rebuilding or setting up a really good
linux system I cringe at the thought of taking all the time to do it. Set them
up, back them up and avoid these issues at all costs.

7. I recall that the people at Brother in Japan did make a straight Linux
driver that is downloadable (at least from the command line), and thanks to me,
they also included the instructions for the different Linux OS's.

The Libreoffice now prints NICE black laser printer type text, and the PDF's
print, and the machine spits them out, almost immediately after pressing
"print".

I can't speak for everyone - but for me, I and many others in my case, have
solved the problem...

NOW I have a nice little black and white laser printer that, with an average of
perhaps 100 pages per year, with the supplies on hand, will last me for many
decades...

Just got to keep the dust and crap out of it in the first place, and protect it
from lightening strikes by both protective power filtering equipment and
unplugging when the storms come over..
