Rather try the filepicker on recent LO version with different rendering if
necessary. If there's a problem, feel free to submit a bugtracker if there's
none corresponding to your problem.
Also, I don't know if it's possible to build a standalone sdbc-postgresql but
you may also retrieve the code and give it a try.
