Additional testing under Linux VM (Kubuntu 18.04) gave interesting results.

But there is nothing in the release notes that indicates any changes to this
functionality - or at least none that I can spot.

While this bug seems to have somehow been fixed in 6.3 I feel uncomfortable not
knowing the root cause of a data-destructive bug. As a developer I've seen bugs
being hidden too often :(
