Great this workaround works! :-)

Another thing you can try is checking if your graphic card drivers (which
include OpenGL) are up-to-date.
If it's not the case, update them and make a new try.
If after the update, it still fails, it could be interesting you provide some
extra information (see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Graphics-related_issues_.28OpenGL.29)
