I also tried this on Windows finally, and the same issue applies, with
appearance similar to the screenshot in comment #6.

However, a similar issue is now apparent even on Linux (although I observed the
font substituted was DejaVu Sans Mono, rather than the proportional sans-serif
font on Windows or macOS). This is because LibreOffice 5.3 removed support for
Type 1 fonts, which is the format Courier 10 Pitch is typically available as on
Linux (such as the xfonts-scalable package on Debian/Ubuntu); see #104701.
Using Courier 10 Pitch now requires having it in a compatible format, such as
the TTF version I linked to in comment #3.

I think this issue might be rephrased as "improper substitute used for Courier
10 Pitch". I'm not sure LibreOffice is responsible for choosing font
substitutes, though.
