Thank you. Your effort is appreciated.
But I disagree :-)

For two reasons:
A very similar problem on Windows was fixed some time ago.
The article on Stackoverflow that you refer to is Python 2.7 and a completely
different library (Urllib2).

I will add Michael Stahl as he fixed #109241. 

@Michael: If you agree with Xisco I'll accept the case to be closed.
