For me, problem here is the discussion itself, which repeats from time to time.
What I do is convert those bugs to Documentation, like bug 112872 for clone
formatting.
Documentation should be very clear with all those examples, so that we
immediately can point there. But I can't see a good page on copy/paste with
direct/style/character...
