I just noticed that setting the key
org.openoffice.Office.Common/Passwords/TrySystemCredentialsFirst to true makes
this annoying popup go away and file opening to "just work" like it used to.

Maybe the same magic behind that could be used? 
Maybe setting this key to true by default can be a viable option too (although
it could have security implications... I'm not sure about that).
