To give more info:

On my MacOS 10.13.6, LO worked fine for sometime. This crash bug did not appear
immediately after the OS update from 10.12 (system on which the bug also
appears anyways, as well as on 10.14). It started shortly after the 2019-005
security update by Apple; perhaps already after the 2019-004 (14.08.2019)
security update.

The first time I've experienced the crash was induced by clicking on "Check for
Updates" in the Extension Manager.

Could it be that some new security gate added to MacOS brings LO to crash when
attempting to connect to the web?

Has anyone tried other LO functions implying under the hood web requests?

PS: My opinion as an intermediate user (No knowledge of C or C++, but R,
Python, Javascript programer used to search on StackOverflow and forums):
Whatever it is, the workaround works, but, I agree, it is very well hidden (it
cost me several hours to find out; I've switched to Scrivener during crash time
and seriously considered remaining with Scrivener despite a great like for LO).
