No transitions
Presentation saved
Reopen,position to first slide
Open Slide Transitions deck of the SideBar
Click select of 'Fade' transition

Crash & recovery

Same system OpenGL rendering disabled. Same steps, no crash and transition
previews in the Impress editing window.
