First: A general remark: You should never comment on a text you haven't read
through!
Second: What you describe in point 2 is the way to base a new document on a
template. But this is not the object of the present discussion. It is concerned
with associating another template to an already existing document.
Third: If you really mean what you say in point 3, then this is an
impossibility: One should create a new document on a template that is not
available via "File" > "New" > "Templates" by using this menu path!
