Bug ID: 128435
Summary: Data crushed in another sheet when using 'search in
all sheets'
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 6.2.8.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: themightyloki at free.fr
Description:
In a Calc document containing multiple sheets of texts (used for software
localisation), I might need to alter something, for example "red bird" instead
of "blue bird". I do a search for "blue bird" and check the "all the sheets"
option.
When I see "blue bird", without closing the search window, I click on the
desired cell, for example "cell D27" of "sheet 2", and write "red" instead of
"blue".
I keep going like this, by clicking the "search next" button to find the other
occurrences to fix.
What happens here, is that VERY OFTEN (but not 100% of the time...), I realize
later that the content of the cells I modified this way crushed the content of
another cell with the same coordinates IN ANOTHER SHEET (for example, the
content of cell D27 of sheet 2 crushed the content of cell D27 of sheet 4...
but this can happen in any sheet, before or after sheet 2) !
This can result in severe data loss !
If I use the search in all sheet function and close the search window every
time BEFORE clicking on the cell I need to modify, the problem does not happen.
But it quickly becomes quite tiresome, especially with very big files...
Also, I *think* I also got the same problem when using "replace all + in all
sheets", but crushed cell are even harder to find in this case, so I stopped
using it, or manually did a "replace all" in each sheet one by one, to avoid
problems...
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Search for some text in a multi-sheets document with the "in all sheets"
option.
2. Alter this text without closing the search window.
3. Check afterwards the contents of the cells with the same coordinates as
those modified in all the other sheets.
Actual Results:
You find in random other sheets that some cells got overwritten by the content
of the cells you modified.
Expected Results:
Only the cells modified in the current sheet where the search returned a result
should be altered. Not the cells in the other sheets !
Reproducible: Sometimes
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Sadly, I cannot provide any of my workfiles to demonstrate this, as I am bound
by a confidentiality agreement... :(
But this problem happened multiple times with different files other the last
months.
