I would like to move forward on this bug.
Changing the name of numbering will make loose the automatic translation of
this name in all l10n as mentioned in comment 5
So we will need a translated name for each l10n.

I propose to implement solution 1 of comment 4: 
- create a new AutoText "FNC" which will insert the old autotext with numbering
"Text". 
- change numbering of autotext "FN" to "Equation" in English and a localized
name for other l10n:
