Bug ID: 135957
Summary: Excel and Calc borders not cross-compatible
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.0.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: rafael.palma.lima at gmail.com
There is an incompatibility of cell borders between MS Excel and LO Calc that I
have experienced for a long time and I think it is a major issue in using
LibreOffice Calc. Whenever I open a Calc file on Excel (or vice-versa), the
border thickness is changed.
This happens in both directions (From Excel to Calc, and from Calc to Excel).
I'll explain how to reproduce both scenarios (see also the attached images for
more details).
SCENARIO 1 - Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a table on Excel
2) Apply default borders to the table
3) Save the Excel file and exit
4) Open the file on LO Calc
5) Notice that the borders are now a lot thicker
SCENARIO 2 - Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a table on LO Calc
2) Apply default borders to the table
3) Save the Calc file and exit
4) Open the file on Excel
5) Notice that the borders are now dashed
This problem is a big issue in LibreOffice Calc and MS Excel compatibility,
because default cell borders is something almost every spreadsheet has. This
bug makes me have to fix all borders in a file every time I convert them.
