Thanks Dieter. Please consider:
1. Set Field Codes in Options, and OK
2. In a document, hit Ctrl-F9, then look in Options again (see that setting for
Field codes is now unset)
3. Show Field Codes in a document. Open a new document (preferably a template
with field codes, so you can quickly see the effect). The field codes are
shown.
4. Same document as in step 3, now hide field codes. Open new document. The
field codes are not shown.
In other words, in practice:
1. Ctrl-F9 toggles the setting in Option.
2. Opening new (or existing documents) adopts the current "show field code"
setting of the current document (with the exception that for Untitled
(unsaved) new documents, even if Field Codes are set, it has no effect if you
open an existing document).
If there are no "bugs" in the Option (in relation to intended operation). Then
my simple-minded suggestion was to drop this option from the Options - Writer -
View menu, because it provides no functional value or operational effect that
cannot already be achieved easily with View > Field Codes (Ctrl-F9).
