Have I understood correctly that this merged patch will remove the possibility
for a floating Navigation window?

If so, then this change would "break" the "Repeat Search" function described
in:  https://help.libreoffice.org/6.5/en-US/text/swriter/01/02110100.html  
from which the following quote is taken.

Working With the Navigation Toolbar

Open the Navigation toolbar by clicking on its icon located in the vertical
scrollbar. You can break the toolbar away from its place by dragging and
arrange it on the screen.
