As per the questions below:

1.  I upgraded from Lubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. IN 18.04 it printed; however I
cannot remember which LO version I had then.

2. Printing does work with PDF files opened in Document Viewer.

3. I cannot test LO daily master

CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3; 
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US

5. Using SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen soffice solves the issue! I tested with some
text documents and spreadsheets.
