Sorry.  I switched to Microsoft Word quite a long time ago.  My best
recollection is that you can stop the popups by turning off spellcheck, but
then you don't have the benefit of catching spelling errors.  

The ideal solution would be to keep the spellcheck on, but to be able to turn
the word completion prompts off.
