Do all below if you can:
a) Option to change thickness of cursor
b) Set thickness to 4 or more pixels wide
(or width of character) by default.
If this is easiest, make this a priority if press for time.
c) Consider adding a special key to
blink the cursor with dynamically light wave
radiating outwards beacon to easy visual location.
For such an example, in Linux Mint 19.x,
when you press Ctrl key, the mouse cursor
has this similar radiating light wave icon blinking.
This visual accessibility problem (bug)
has been around for at least 10 years or
as long as LibreOffice is around.
Now single pixel width cursor is almost invisible
and is getting really hard to visually locate
when display is very high resolution!
