Very interesting.
I saved the PPTX early yesterday morning after testing it in Windows MSO365.
I then did an update in Windows (took almost all day - >1GB download)
This morning I tried using both the online version of MS365 (the new name) and
the full version in the VM.
Hey presto, it looks like your screenshot!
Other things resolved are that the fit-to-frame was working.
Only quibble is on slide 8 where the rounded rectangle is slightly off.

So, I guess this is just typical MS.
Since introducing their "good enough" policy more than 20y ago, they are driven
by delivery date concerns and things like following their own standards (which
they change anyway when it suits them) are much lower on the list of
priorities.

I see that online MSO365 will not open ODP files.
In the full version (I run Win10, Win7, XP in VM with equivalent versions of
MSO because MS will often not read older versions of their own files, notably,
MSProject, OneNote) I can open ODP, but it is still an embarrassing mess and
would not be able to use it when facing the public.

Kudos to you and team for doing a much better job than MS which really does not
seem to care in spite of all the billions they make in profits. Very sad. Maybe
if Bill had to spend some of his marketing-friendly charity billions by
improving the quality of his product... A leopard does not change his spots. So
I don't hold my breath.

As far as I am concerned, you can close this as resolved.
