Bug ID: 137264
Summary: Large files gradually become slow and slower and
sometimes can't be read by excel
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 6.0.7.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: dav1dblunk3tt at hotmail.com
Description:
I'm working with relatively large spreadsheets (100 cols x 2000 rows).
Over time with lots of small changes LO gets slower and slower and slower such
that this morning changing one cell froze LO for >1min and I killed it and
started again.
Associated with this it sharing the file via xlsx format means that excel can
no longer read the data (it appears corrupt) but LO works fine.
I find that saving as csv, quitting LO and loading the csv then saving as xlsx
usually fixes both problems but this morning nothing let excel load the
spreadsheet.
Steps to Reproduce:
I can't guarantee any method to reproduce it but I associate it with:
Large spreadsheets
Lots of incremental saves
Actual Results:
LO gets unusably slow
sometimes the xlsx file cannot be read by excel (but saving to other formats
works for excel)
Expected Results:
It shouldn't get slow - the data isn't that big
Export to xlsx should always be readable by excel
Reproducible: Sometimes
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:

CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 4.15; UI render: default; VCL: kde4;
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); Calc: group
