Hm, that's something I never understood. This mixing of effectiveness of style
and direct formatting. When using a style bold command I wouldn't expect that
this also means that the direct formatting bold command is also activated.

This results in the situation we have now that the ODF xml files are crowded
with formatting tags that say e.g. "transparent background" instead of nothing
(--> result of direct formatting colored background and then no-fill formatting
to delete the background color), as transparent already is the base formatting.
