As far as I know, most Mac displays are color-managed, even very old models of
notebook and workstation, which means the color space conversion is
unavoidable. Also, color space conversions can be performed between two same
bit-per-component formats (e.g. 8-bit SRGB and 8-bit calibrated SRGB).
