Yes, that sounds like a problem to me - if that is true. If the direct
formatting matches the inherited formatting (from styles etc), then the direct
formatting should be removed. (Of course, there are probably exceptions needed
for that rule too.)

[I usually get lost when debugging this deep, but it seems to me that there are
already attempts to avoid setting a property if it matches the parents - at a
fairly low level.]
