An alternative implementation to fix the issue may be as follows:

(1) Currently a stock (non native) control is used when setting a custom
background.

(2) Instead of ignoring foreground when no custom background is set, the same
approach may be used: If a custom foreground is set, a stock control and not
the native one will be choosen.
