--- Comment #2 from Jean-François Fortin Tam <nekohayo at gmail.com> ---
This gets weirder. I tried my laptop today with LibreOffice 7.0.5.2 (still the
GTK3 version from Fedora 33), and it doesn't even work with the guillemets
(quotation marks). If I type "banane: banane; banane? banane!" (into a document
where all the text was set to French), I get *exactly* that:
"banane: banane; banane? banane!"
No non-breakable spaces, no French quotation marks.
Apostrophes don't get replaced either.
Version 7.1.2.2 from Flathub (Flatpak) does not exhibit the problem...
but as I said previously, version 7.2 alpha AppImage did exhibit the problem.
So this is starting to look less like a predictable regression from one version
to the next, and more like a race condition heisenbug that makes it behave
differently on different computers (as I'm currently on my laptop instead of my
desktop workstation, whereas all other variables are otherwise the same).
