After further testing using my Mac Mini (BigSur macOS 11.2.1) and MacBook Pro
(Catalina macOS 10.16.7), this file opening problem and zoom not functioning
looks like an incompatibility problem with the latest version of macOS, which
is BigSur macOS 11.2.1.
This file opening problem and zoom not functioning appears to work OK on
Catalina macOS 10.16.7. This version of macOS is the latest version of 10.16
before version 11 was released by Apple.
Hope this info helps in solving this problem.
