If the three paragraphs in the "right" screen were Default Paragraph Style,
then the left screen is (somewhat) expected (current) behavior.

You did not describe what you did, but from the "right" screen in the
attachment, it looks like you did not press "Enter" two times after entering
the first line.

Try again -- make sure to start with an uppercase letter, and do not end with a
period, and then press Enter twice. 

If "Apply Styles" was checked in the AutoCorrect options, then I predict that
you will get the first line of the "left" screen (i.e., Heading 1)  -- while
typing...

If you have manually applied a new font type or changed font size to your
Default Paragraph Style text, then these changes will be lost if they are
different than the font type and font size for "Text Body", and you used "Tools
- AutoCorrect - Apply"  see bug 90507.
