Bug ID: 143401
Summary: Extension updates server is down
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Extensions
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: sergio.callegari at gmail.com
Description:
The server letting the "extensions updates" work in LibO is down or
misconfigured. Hence, looking for extension updates one gets an error message.
"Error reading data from the Internet.
Server error message: 403 Forbidden."
There are two strictly related problems here. One is that the server should
work. The second one is that the error message is only clear to those knowing
what is going on. Translating the "403" into something like:
"The server in charge of providing extensions updates is not working as
expected right now (HTTP status code 403: Forbidden). Please try again later."
would probably be better.
Steps to Reproduce:
Open the extension manager and press the button to check for updates.
Actual Results:
You get a window saying
"Error reading data from the Internet.
Server error message: 403 Forbidden."
Expected Results:
Ideally you should either get info that extension updates are available or they
are not.
If there is an error with the backend server (which ideally should not) the
error message should be readable even by those not knowing HTTP status codes.
For instance, the 403 should probably be translated into something like:
"The server in charge of providing extensions updates is not working as
expected right now (HTTP status code 403: Forbidden). Please try again later."
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Not tied to a specific LibO version.
