Bug ID: 143469
Summary: Font Effects -> Outline feature
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: elalbatross at optimum.net
Description:
I've searched around and can only find this request in other message boards,
not BugZilla, so I'd like this to get resolved once and for all. It's a HIGHLY
misunderstood request because the word 'outline' has way too many definitions.
I apologize in advance if this gets too wordy because this really warrants a
proper description.
In Impress/Draw, create a text box, type a word.
Right-click the text box > Edit Style... > Font Effects > Outline (check box)
What this feature does:
Takes the font color (default, black), wraps the letter in a border of that
color, then turns the letter itself white (so it's white letter with a black
border).
What this feature needs:
-the ability to choose the color of the letter itself (ex: black border around
yellow instead of white)
-the ability to adjust the thickness of the border around the letter (1px, 5px,
etc)
-(optional) the ability to change the line type (solid, dashed, double, etc)
FontWork/Intersecting Shapes is NOT a viable solution, I have many slides with
lots of words (lyrics) that need to be changed on the fly, doing all that with
shape objects would take forever.
TLDR: the font outline feature exists in LibreOffice but is painfully
incomplete. It has been around on PowerPoint/Keynote for years.
**Note: Please understand this feature request before marking it as a
duplicate, as it always gets confused with another completely non-related
feature. That's a big part of the reason why this seemingly basic feature has
still not been implemented all these years later.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create Text Box and type a word
2. Right-click the text box > Edit Style... > Font Effects (tab)
3. Check box that says Outline towards the bottom
Actual Results:
Places black border around white letter
Expected Results:
Ability to choose color of Border AND Letter, as well as border line thickness.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Given me the option to choose the color of the letter itself, the color of the
border around the letter, and the thickness of the line that makes up the
border.
