I have used a fair number of text editors and IDEs in my time and none of them
have done this. When I hit backspace, I expect only the character immediately
to the left of the cursor to be deleted, regardless of how it was inserted. 

I guess I could see adding an option for this, but it's an enhancement, not a
bug.
