Hi Mike. I have a need/question that I hope you may answer and somewhat is
related  to this bug, could be added at least as a tip. 

Can number of pages be read in headless mode? I guess it would depend on
filetype.
I'm inspired by finding a number in PDF as explained in
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14704274/how-to-write-shell-script-for-finding-number-of-pages-in-pdf#.
