This is decidedly off topic to this issue, which is about memory management of
the the OLE formula objects.
IMHO the most effective work around is to prepare formulas external to Writer
as individual ODF Formula documents, or better as Math Markup Language 2.0
files (the Math formula editor saves to both, and Writer reads either)--and
insert them as objects.
They'd be preserved outside the Writer ODF Text archive, rather than in-line as
formula objects where content is being dropped. Only requires small changes to
work flow but protects your formula work.
As to using format other than the ODF Formula/StarMath/MathML to hold the
formula--that is already well exercised in extension:
