I have no idea what CPU Simon's Dell 755/760 computers use, but since it's a
change between 7.1.5 and 7.1.6, I suggest trying disabling Skia to see if it's
a duplicate of bug 144598.

Simon, since you can start 7.1.6 but have trouble opening files, please go to
Tools > Options dialog, disable the LibreOffice > View > Graphics Output > Use
Skia for all rendering checkbox, click OK button and restart LibreOffice.  See
if this solves your problem.

Also it's always a good idea to paste your LibreOffice version information
(from Help > About LibreOffice dialog, click the button after "Version
Information" to copy to clipboard and then paste here) when reporting a bug.
