Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that only a zoom-UI setting would fix the problem
for me.

I would be happy for any solution that let my not-so-young-anymore eyes read
the interface/menubar easily.  That could be a small-medium-large text size
preference, or even just a fixed size if it was as large and contrasty as other
apps are, i.e. 7px black-on-white instead of 5px black-on-grey.

Any solution would be great.
