The problem still persist in 5.3.4.2 Ubuntu Linux 64 bit. In docx format
cross-references are completely broken on export and in doc format they are
converted to text. It is interesting that cross-references still persist in doc
file if it is opened in LibreOffice and they can be updated, but still all
cross-references appears as text when opened in Word.
The workaround to convert cross-references to bookmarks is working, however it
requires addditional work and it is not convenient in case of many
cross-references and changing document structure.
