I think you have approached the numbering in "the wrong way" ie., not relying
on paragraph styles. You should create a new paragraph style for the numbering.
The following assumes redoing the thing in a fresh document.
Go to the sidebar, Style & formatting, Paragraph styles, right-click Default
and select New.
In the Organizer tab, give it some cool name.
In the Outline and numbering tab, change Numbering style from None to some of
the Numbering x ones. Press OK to create the new style.
Double-click the name of the new style to apply it to the paragraph. You will
notice it is a numbered list right away.
Type some nonsense filler text and hit enter, hit tab to increase indent,
filler text, enter, tab again so you are at level 3, filler text.
Now you can edit your paragraph style (right-click, modify) and see how
changing the Numbering style affects the look (hitting Apply without closing
the dialog).
If you don't find a look you like, you can create a new numbering style in the
List Styles section of the Styles & formatting sidebar deck. You can edit the
outline type, position of the different levels etc.

These types of problems should first be submitted to

I am setting to needinfo and hoping you can verify that this style-based
approach works for you.
