Something similar is happing in Impress (<a class="bz_bug_link bz_status_NEW " title="NEW - Clicking text or text box on macOS Sierra results in sluggish UI" href="show_bug.cgi?id=106962">bug 106962</a>). Disabling the sidebar should speed up things.
