<pre>OK, I see the problem. The document I was working on was using a character
style as a paragraph style. In Word, when you edit a style it will be smart
about selecting the correct type. In LO you have to explicitly select the
correct type or you can accidentally edit the default style.
This is basically a dupe of

I'll close this as NOT A BUG and open a new enhancement request if I can't find
a similar one here.</pre>
