Alignment guides are available already to a certain extent in the current
version of LO. I am on (v6.1.1.2 on Linux).
On Impress and Writer: View -> Grid and Helplines -> Helplines while moving.
Right now, the helplines are just displayed independent of the rest of the
elements in the page. Therefore, we need to use visual acuity and motor skills
to align items.
One can hold down "shift" while dragging an element in the slide to lock the
drag direction to either horizontal or vertical.
No snap yet because the helplines are just projections of the border of the
dragged element.
